As the final week of May approaches and conference season is now in full swing, jet-setting around global financial centres hasn’t prevented senior fintech leaders from looking for greener pastures. This week saw senior technologists across banking, insurance and broader financial services shift roles and take on new responsibilities.
The former Emea head of payments and receivables technology at Citi, Barry Parker, has taken on a CTO role for payments at Santander’s UK business. Based in London, Parker spent two years at Citi, having joined in March of 2020.
At Citi, he was responsible for payments technology spanning 55 countries throughout the Emea region. A key part of his role involved executing Citi’s multi-year payments transformation programme which to deliver new and innovative capabilities into the region and gradually replace legacy payments processing infrastructure.
Prior to joining Citi, Parker spent 11 years at Barclays across various payments technology roles, having joined in 2008 as a project manager within the bank’s Global Payments Utility division. Parker started his career in financial technology as an analyst at Citi in 2006.
Swedish life insurer, Futur Pension (formerly Danica Pension Försäkrings) has hired SEB veteran, Matthias Forsberg as its new chief information officer. In a departure from the well, established finance-to-fintech pipeline, Forsberg joined the pension in May, after two years and six months spent as the CTO of Stockholm-based fintech Qliro. The fintech provides electronic payment services to e-merchants.
There, Forsberg steered several initiatives, including re-architecting several solutions, replacing legacy infrastructure, transitioning from Hadoop to Snorflake, migrating towards cloud computing on AWS, recruitment and the introduction of agile and DevOps methodologies.
Prior to Qliro, Forsberg spent just under five years, between 2014 and 2019, in various senior tech roles at institutional investor SEB. His career also includes roles at IBM, as well as Swedish tech providers Alcesys and Com Hem.
Pima Federal Credit Union
Over in the US, the Pima Federal Credit Union has brought in Bruce Barnett to head up technology. Barnett joined the credit union this week as CTO, after a decade spent at Tri Counties Bank, an $8.5bn community bank in Northern California.
At Tri Counties, Barnett latterly held the CIO role, managing various technology areas, including core banking, information systems, networking, information security, and application support.
He was responsible for all aspects of developing and implementing technology initiatives within the organisation. Prior to joining Tri Counties in 2011, he held various VP and SVP roles at Rabobank and Butte Community Bank.
