Weve, the UK telco consortium, has appointed David Sear, formerly of Travelex and VocaLink, as its new chief executive officer (CEO).
The mobile network operators (MNOs) behind Weve, Everything Everywhere, O2 and Vodafone, originally envisaged a SIM-based platform for mobile payments, but have now instead decided to aim to build a clearing house for business-to-consumer (B2C) mobile marketing and loyalty points, with in-built transactional capabilities.
Sear replaces the outgoing Nancy Cruickshank, who led the ‘project oscar’ initiative as it was known in its early days, in March 2013, with a transition period in action until then. Sear previously spent six years at Travelex and three at VocaLink
Weve offers location-based messaging, app discovery messaging, targeted text and video messaging capabilities to marketers at the moment, and is planning on expanding its mobile m-commerce and payments offering in the coming year.
