Morningstar UK Limited, a subsidiary of Morningstar, Inc., (NASDAQ: MORN), a leading provider of independent investment research, today announced the appointment of Phil Roantree as a fixed-income investment analyst for the Morningstar OBSR manager research team.

Roantree has more than 28 years of experience in the investment management industry, including 20 years as a fixed-income fund manager. In his new role, he will provide expert analysis on a range of fixed-income funds and their respective managers as part of Morningstar’s independent manager research offering for intermediaries.

Before joining Morningstar, Roantree held the position of chief investment officer and fixed-income fund manager at Querns Asset Managers, responsible for asset allocation and macro input for the investment committee. Before joining Querns, he was fixed-income fund manager for the New Star Sterling Bond Unit Trust, a fund he managed for 15 years through a series of company acquisitions, firstly at Prolific Asset Management, followed by Aberdeen Asset Management, and ultimately at New Star Asset Management.

Ruli Viljoen, head of fund research for Morningstar OBSR, comments:

“Our role at Morningstar OBSR is to provide high–quality, independent manager research that supports intermediaries in their important work serving investors. Phil’s extensive expertise in fixed-income investment strategies brings a valuable enhancement to our research offering, and I am pleased to welcome him to the team.”

Roantree’s appointment follows the recent additions of experienced fund analysts Simon Dorricott and Linsay McPhater to Morningstar’s manager research team. Morningstar provides in-depth research and ratings on approximately 4,000 funds, of which 900 are available to investors in the UK.
