MasterCard has announced its MasterPass in-app payment technology at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona.
The technology enables consumers to make purchases securely within mobile applications, eliminating the need to store payment card credentials across a range of apps.
Forbes Digital Commerce, Fat Zebra, MLB Advanced Media, NoQ, Starbucks Australia and Shaw Theatres Singapore are some of the first app providers that will utilise MasterPass.
MasterPass in-app payments will be made available to developers and merchants at the start of the second quarter of the year.
The service requires a quick, seamless integration similar to the process for online merchants already successfully implemented at more than 30,000 MasterPass merchants to date in Australia, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Robert Tibbs, chairman and chief executive of Forbes Digital Commerce, said: "We’re excited to begin offering MasterPass to our customers as an innovative digital payment solution. This fully aligns with our philosophy to make in-app commerce as easy and efficient as possible."
