Commonwealth Bank introduces NFC stickers

18 October 2013

Commonwealth Bank in Australia is offering near field communication (NFC) stickers to customers that will allow them to make contactless payments using their mobile phones.

The PayTag stickers are activated using the CommBank apps for Android and iOS models. Using their devices, customers can control the contactless functionality, meaning they can turn it on as and when it is required.

If a customer already has an NFC-enabled Android handset they can pay directly from the app for transactions lower than AU$100 (US$96).

Commonwealth Bank is revamping the way it operates and says mobile is the main method in which customers log on on to their banking service, with its volume of contactless payments increasing sixfold in the past 12 months.

Angus Sullivan, executive general manager of cards, payments, analytics and retail strategy at the institution, said: "As the only Australian bank with an NFC payment solution for both iPhone and Android devices, this will transform the way our customers make everyday payments."
