The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Scott Marcar as chief information officer (CIO) for markets. He joins the Markets & International Banking (M&IB) division at RBS in London after an internal promotion and will report to David Shalders, chief logistics officer, markets.
Marcar was previously RBS’ head of finance, operations and risk technology with responsibility for global technology and change across the logistics and controls functions in M&IB, covering the UK, US, India and Asia-Pacific.
Marcar originally joined RBS in 2007 as head of fixed income technology and since that time has reported to Stephen Norman, the out-going CIO who has decided to retire in December 2012.
Commenting on the appointment, David Shalders said: “Scott’s breadth of experience spans front office and logistics and controls technology so he is well positioned to tackle the new and evolving challenges ahead. The role of technology has never been more central or critical given the need to offer the right solutions to our customers whilst addressing the regulatory changes the industry faces”.
