IBM Enables HSBC Trinkaus to Expand Wealth Offerings into New Markets

Vienna, Austria - 17 September 2008

IBM (NYSE: IBM) and HSBC Trinkaus today announced the successful completion of the integration phase of a project using IBM FundsHandler to enable it to use SWIFTNet Funds to extend its funds processing business into new markets. The IBM FundsHandler project will also enable HSBC Trinkaus to be one of the first service houses in the fund management business to support the new ISO20022 message standard using SWIFTNet InterAct.

IBM FundsHandler helps HSBC Trinkaus reduce costs significantly by being able to keep track and manage SWIFTNet Funds messages from initiation through to completion over the SWIFTNet. This not only provides a flexible and functionally rich infrastructure on which the bank can expand its banking and wealth offerings into new markets, but also enables HSBC Trinkaus to be compliant with the very latest ISO messaging standard. The SWIFTNet Funds messages are a core functionality for the HSBCfast platform. This fund order routing platform of HSBC Trinkaus is one of the leading fund platforms in Europe with more than 9 million fund orders per year and more than 19,000 mutual funds available on a straight through processing (STP) basis.

The new system allows HSBC Trinkaus to avoid expensive message errors by checking all messages for correct syntax and valid construction. IBM FundsHandler also provides a search and repair facility for immediate intervention for the efficient and effective correction of messages directly in real time in order to maintain STP and can also correct and resend messages where this is not supported by the originating system. This facility is not used by HSBC Trinkaus.

In addition, FundsHandler also provides conversion services to build ISO20022 messages from a variety of data formats.
IBM has a suite of integrated SWIFTReady labeled payments solutions, including IBM FundsHandler and Cash Reporting Provider, that collectively support the management and control of end-to-end payments, transactions and liquidity. The solution is one of it.

The FundsHandler uses IBM WebSphere Message Broker, WebSphere Application Server and DB2 and runs on Sun Solaris, AIX and z/OS. The latest version of IBM FundsHandler is available for demonstration on the IBM stand (Hall C, Booth C623) at Sibos in Vienna.
