European investment banks join forces

29 January 2007

Europe's major national banking lobbying groups are to join forces to state their case with European authorities and regulators.

The Financial Times reports that investment bank lobby groups from France, Italy, Sweden and the UK have come together to form the European Forum of Securities Associations.

The French Association of Investment Firms, the Italian Association of Financial Intermediaries, the Swedish Securities Dealers Association and the London Investment Banking Association are aiming to present their case to a number of bodies including the European Commission and the Committee of European Securities Regulators.

Jonathan Taylor, director general of the London Investment Banking Association, told the FT: "This is complementary to, rather than replacing our existing activities, because there will be areas where we will naturally tend to take different views."

The new body will not have permanent staff, but use employees for the member associations as necessary.
