Smith Breeden Leaps from PORTIA 5.0 to PORTIA 8.0 with InvestTech Systems Consulting

New York & Los Angeles, CA – 26 December 26 2006

InvestTech Systems Consulting, the leading IT and operations consultancy for institutional investors, today announced that it recently completed a successful leapfrog upgrade from Thomson’s PORTIA 5.0 portfolio management product to version 8.0 for Smith Breeden, a leading investment management firm based in North Carolina with more than $29 billion in assets under management.

Skipping two versions, the upgrade represents one of the first of its kind in the industry and allows Smith Breeden to benefit from significant new functional and technical capabilities that extend support for the needs of the middle and back office. Performance has been streamlined and report runtime reduced by as much as 70% The enhanced 8.0 version of PORTIA is also the most scalable to date providing the ability to support continued customer growth in account levels and transaction volumes.

InvestTech has a long track record of successful PORTIA implementations at a variety of leading firms in the industry. InvestTech’s team worked closely with Smith Breeden throughout the entire process, employing rigorous testing in both pre and post release environments. These two environments were synchronized throughout the entire process to ensure that all data was parallel, comparable and accurate.

Jill Katz, Senior Managing Consultant, InvestTech Systems said, “What makes InvestTech’s implementation of PORTIA and other products different is our testing methodology, which we believe is the most rigorous in the industry. You have to keep the pre and post-release environments absolutely pristine so that your data always aligns. You have to compare apples to apples in a testing environment, and unless someone is policing it, most of the time it just isn’t done adequately.”
