BETA SYSTEMS EXPANDS IDENTITY MANAGEMENT PORTFOLIO TO INCLUDE VIRTUAL DIRECTORY

• New SAM Jupiter components for Virtual Directory and Directory Synchronization

• OEM agreement concluded with Norwegian Identity Management specialist MaXware

21.06.2005 – Beta Systems Software AG (ISIN DE 0005224406), Berlin, a provider of Identity Management (IdM) software for the administration of particularly large numbers of users, is expanding its SAM Jupiter IdM suite by the addition of two new modules. SAM Virtual Directory and SAM Data Synchronization Engine will offer customers a new and efficient approach to the creation of an IdM architecture based on the provisioning solution SAM Jupiter. The components make use of technology from Beta Systems’ Norwegian OEM partner, Trondheim-based Maxware AS, which has already been tried and tested within the customer environment.

In many companies, identity information is stored in different repositories scattered across the entire organization. The unregulated growth of identity directories brings in its wake a large number of redundant processes within the company, and often leads to high costs and poor data quality. User names, telephone numbers, site-related information and other data is frequently administered in different primary systems, each requiring the initiation of separate synchronization processes in order to keep information up to date.

With the SAM Data Synchronization Engine, policies can be applied uniformly in order to synchronize data between primary sources, for example between HR systems, the SAM provisioning solution and any existing directories in which user information is held. In addition the SAM Virtual Directory provides middleware which guarantees simple access to elements of user information from different databases and directories. The components form a logical layer that converts content into user-specific views. This enables adjustments to be carried out in the shortest possible time, while substantially reducing the programming effort for adaptation in line with the underlying infrastructure.

"Analysts from the Burton Group estimate that virtual directory solutions will increasingly become part of enterprise-wide IdM architectures", according to David Ferré, Vice President of Beta Systems, and head of its Security Solutions division. "By expanding our portfolio, we’re providing the customer with an almost complete identity management offering. The new modules perfectly complement the provisioning, compliance and password management capabilities of the SAM Jupiter suite, and are in line with our platform- and vendor-neutral development strategy", continues Ferré.
