BOSTON, Massachusetts, February 28, 2005âMarket Systems Technology, Inc. (MST), provider of low latency solutions for the financial services industry, today announced that the Boston Stock Exchange has purchased its Market Access® ticker processing system on an Intel-based fault-tolerant Linux server platform from Stratus Technologies, Inc. Market Access is a cost-effective, highly scalable solution for processing exchange data directly from sources such as OPRA, the NYSE, and other exchanges and ECNs.
"When it comes to evaluating a mission-critical application like ticker processing or messaging, stock exchanges have the highest possible requirements for performance and availability," said Jack Swan, president of MST. "The proven performance, reliability, and minimal latency of Market Access together with the continuously available ftServer® platform from Stratus, the leader in fault-tolerant technology, exceeds these requirements and will scale to meet BSEâs future needs."
The Exchange, which operates its existing Market Access ticker plant on hardware from Stratus, chose to upgrade the complete solution by investing in the newest open-systems technology offered by both suppliers. "Market Access on the Stratus ft Linux® platform gives us low latency and high availability, and allows us to take advantage of the cost-effective performance of Linux," said Yann LâHuillier Vice President of Trading Systems at the BSE. "Our current Market Access ticker plant, running on Stratusâ VOS operating system, has proven to be a key enabler of the BSE's success over the years. The new system will allow us to continue to reliably provide our member firms with real time data, while positioning us for future growth." BSE plans deployment of the system in the spring.
Market Access is capable of handling hundreds of exchange feeds and data sources, and processing over 100,000 messages per second with near-zero latency. The combined MST/Stratus solution is a cost-effective replacement for existing ticker systems that may be difficult to maintain and upgrade, and strained by increasing data volumes. Its affordability also makes this solution suitable for hedge funds, banks, broker/dealers, and others who can benefit from reliably receiving market data directly from exchange sources.
Market Access is available for Stratus® systems running VOS, ft Linux, and Microsoft® Windows. A variety of configurations, such as multiprocessor, multi-server, and clustered server, are available.
