Seekport appoints two former Lycos search engine specialists to support European growth and UK market launch

Principal Developer, Benhui Chen, and Technical Director, Tom Alby, join Seekport from Lycos

Follows recent beta-version launch of UK specific search engine

London, 17 February 2005 – Seekport, the innovative European search engine company, has appointed two search engine industry specialists to join its expanding Technical Management Team. Benhui Chen and Tom Alby join Seekport from Internet portal provider Lycos Europe and bring proven track records of success in the European search engine arena. The appointments significantly strengthen the Seekport Technical Management Team as the company enters its next major growth phase into the UK market.

Seekport recently launched the beta-version of its UK-specific search engine www.seekport.co.uk as part of its roll-out plan to launch country-specific search engines across Europe. The Seekport search engine delivers significantly higher hit quality than traditional US-centric search offerings. This is achieved through the combination of innovative search engine technology with a unique local quality indexing team to dramatically cut spam and ensure that users gain faster access to relevant UK and market-specific content.

Benhui Chen was Principal Developer with Lycos Europe GmbH, where he focussed mainly on the development of its Fireball search technology. He will use this experience as a system architect to focus on the development and optimisation of the Seekport search technology platform. He was born in China and studied Electronics and Information Technology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology before concluding his studies at the Technology University of Berlin.

Tom Alby’s new task as Project Manager will be to help drive the development of Seekport across Europe. He held the position of Technical Director for Lycos and was involved in the European launch of the HotBot search engine. Tom also worked on the launch of the Lycos paid submission programmes. He holds a Masters degree in English, German and Information Technology and is a certified project manager.

Seekport Director, Hermann Havermann said: "Seekport has a high dependency on technology to ensure quality searches. It is essential for Seekport’s success that we have the right calibre of personnel on board with industry leading experience of the European search engine market. Benhui Chen and Tom Alby have the necessary experience and ambition to help Seekport maximise the potential of technology and their decision to join Seekport, is further evidence of our growing search engine market traction."
