Cap Gemini Ernst & Young UK plc selects Axway to tackle MoD e-commerce challenge

- Axway to ensure expanded MoD remit is met during DECS technology overhaul
- Axway's XIB (aXway Integration Broker) solution will offer support for XML messages and equip DECS with new e-business capabilities

27 January 2004, Uxbridge Middlesex: Axway, a leading provider of integration solutions, today announced its XIB (aXway Integration Broker) solution will be used as a major part of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's improvement of the MoD's e-commerce offering, the Defence Electronic Commerce Service (DECS). This follows the recent MoD decision to expand the DECS service to the MoD as a whole.

The DECS project, providing a secure trading portal connecting the MoD with its suppliers and partners in industry, implemented Axway integration software to enable secure, efficient message exchange among the disparate systems of the MoD and its trading partner community. This next phase of the MoD trading partner take-on will result in a predicted 300 per cent increase in message volumes over the next 18 months. Axway responded by offering DECS an upgrade to XIB, the highly scalable and high-performance integration broker it has been developing over the past two years.

Richard Pink, DECS programme design authority at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, said: "With the anticipated increases in DECS message variety and volume, we continuously review our emerging needs against the market. Having depended on Axway integration software right from the start of the DECS project, it was natural for us to see what they could offer in the longer term. We are confident that XIB represents the best solution for DECS, with the flexibility and scalability required to maintain our smooth, efficient online MoD trading partner service."

Martin Stern, UK and Ireland managing director at Axway, commented: "Cap Gemini Ernst & Young's decision to implement XIB re-iterates its commitment to delivering a reliable and secure service. It also confirms its confidence in Axway to ensure critical data is transferred quickly, securely and accurately allowing DECS trading partners to successfully operate within the e-commerce arena."

Pink concluded: "Sophisticated solutions such as DECS require more than just robust integration software. XIB will deliver a faster and more efficient and accurate system operation to DECS and its users. Axway also provided highly-professional support and advice in tailoring its software to our requirements, ensuring delivery of our MoD service commitments."

The move to XIB has been successfully implemented.
