ABN AMRO North America and HBOS Selected as Winners of SunGard BancWare's Inaugural Client User of the Year Award

We are delighted to announce that David Ide, vice president of ABN Amro North America, and Tom Hall, associate director of HBOS Plc (Halifax/ Bank of Scotland), have been given the first and second prizes, respectively, of the inaugural BancWare Client User of the Year Award. The BancWare solution suite provides integrated asset liability management, funds transfer pricing, forecasting and profitability analysis.

Mr. Ide and Mr. Hall were selected from 16 client user nominees put forward by BancWare's professional and client services consultants. The nominees completed a questionnaire to illustrate their usage of BancWare. A BancWare-appointed panel then reviewed the entries to determine the winner, using as criteria the level of knowledge about BancWare, innovative use of the software, time and money saving achievements recognized with BancWare and input provided to BancWare functionality development.

Mr. Ide of ABN AMRO was awarded first prize in recognition of the depth of knowledge he has gained about BancWare in 11 years of using the solution. He is also being recognized for the significant intellectual contributions he has made to BancWare software development. Mr. Ide will receive a personalized trophy from BancWare and an American Express gift voucher.

At its Chicago headquarters, Mr. Ide and ABN AMRO North America use BancWare to manage risk on approximately $90 billion in retail and commercial banking assets. ABN AMRO is a long-time user of BancWare for asset liability management, and added advanced analytics to the solution early in 1999, including: option-adjusted valuation modeling through the Hull and White term-structure model; pre-payment modeling that incorporates the Andrew Davidson prepayment model; and commercial mortgage obligation cash flows based on data from Intex. Through its use of BancWare, ABN AMRO has recognized a significant saving in time and money and an increase in the ability to successfully capture and assess the risks inherent in its balance sheet.

Mr. Ide said, "I am honored to have been selected as BancWare's Client User of the Year. BancWare has saved us invaluable time and money over the years. We used to do much of our mortgage and investments security analytics in stand-alone spreadsheets. Consolidating this process into BancWare has not only saved us enormous amounts of time but also gives us the added benefit of data consistency and accuracy. We've also created a innovative model for projecting mortgage origination income, highlighting the flexibility of the solution."

Mr. Hall, a close runner up, has been awarded the second prize. Like Mr. Ide, Mr. Hall has an exceptional understanding of BancWare, using it for data management, advanced analytical reporting and balance sheet management. He has trained other team members to use BancWare and is responsible for helping to produce complete balance sheet analysis across the banking group at HBOS.

Mr. Hall said, "BancWare has enabled us to fully consolidate the asset liability management process across our Group on a common platform. Using the BancWare solution we have been able to structure our balance sheet to maximize income while minimizing risk and predict customer behavior. We are able to produce relevant and timely reporting information to the Group's executives for critical decision making and to enhance the depth of analysis undertaken, while eliminating the more mundane roles for the benefit of our team."
