At the end of August, as many technology executives are returning to the office following several weeks off, a number of senior techies have been enticed by greener pastures at competitor firms. As the technology market continues to brace for a potential recession, Permira, Wells Fargo, RBC and Mizuho are just some of the firms that continue to spend on senior technology talent. Here’s your fortnightly round-up of fintech moves.

Permira

Private equity and credit asset manager, Permira, has hired Lionell Hill as its new CTO. According to his LinkedIn profile, Hill joined the London-based asset management firm in August, after three years spent at Blackstone-owned real estate service provider, Revantage.

Hill’s experience primarily covers the real estate investment sector, with his longest tenure to date having been at investment manager CBRE between March 2013 and December 2018. At CBRE, he held various senior technology roles, including head of IT for EMEA and Chief Digital and Technology Officer for the same region.

Hill’s career also includes technology leadership roles at UBS, as well as Reuters and Bloomberg in the late 90s and early 2000s. Permira did not respond to a request for comment.

Wells Fargo

The US bank has brought former Julius Baer head of infrastructure, Keith O’Brien, on board in a technology director role. Prior to joining Wells Fargo in August, O’Brien most recently spent 16 years in an executive technology director role at Morgan Stanley.

His experience over the past three decades has mostly been focused on application production support and enterprise integration engineering. Prior to Julius Baer, O’Brien held various roles in financial technology, including as an integration engineer at JPMorgan and an FX trading engineer at UBS.

RBC

Frédéric Chanfrau, the former CIO of commercial bank, payments and Salesforce services at Citizens Bank, has moved to RBC, Royal Bank of Canada’s New York office to head up US cash management technology.

Prior to joining RBC, Chanfrau spent eight years at Citizens, where he oversaw all IT services for the commercial bank business. This was his first finance technology role in over a decade, during which he held various senior leadership posts at Schneider Electric. He latterly oversaw all global IT services for the electricity management giant.
