Welcome to your weekly round-up of technologz moves in finance. It may be the blistering heatwave which blanketed most of Europe this past week or an abundance of caution ahead of an upcoming recession, but technology hires have slowed down significantly since the start of the year. Here are the most interesting moves from the past week.
AIG
Insurance group AIG has promoted Richard Shannon, formerly CIO, corporate systems, to the CTO role. Shannon, a Deutsche bank vet, was moved up to the top job in June, after two years with AIG.
He joined the global insurer in July 2020, following over five years at Deutsche, latterly as CIO, Americas. He joined Deutsche in 2014. Shannon started his career at Goldman Sachs, where he spent 20 years between 1994 and 2014 in various technology roles. His final role at Goldman was as head of global head of platform services in securities.
Pictet Group
Geneva-based investment manager Pictet Group has appointet Raphael Queralto as a technology platform manager for its Alternative Advisors business. Queralto moved to the new remit in July, after 12 years spent at Pictet. For the past four years, he has held the title of chief architect for the investment group, following eight years as a senior enterprise architect.
Prior to Pictet, Queralto spent just under six years in various technology roles at rival swiss investment group, UBP. He has also held various software engineering roles at Temenos and Sword Group, among others.
Equinix
Equinix has hired Gary Zaretsky as a senior manager, technology program management for cloud security. Zaretsky joined the data centre provider in July after ten months in an equivalent role at Capital One.

Prior to this, Zaretsky worked for Fannie Mae for twelve years. He held various roles in IT services, latterly working as a senior program manager for cyber-security. Zaretsky’s career has also incuded technology and business roles at Goldman Sachs, BNY Mellon and Citi.
