UBS announced today that the firm will assume the new role of Global Lead Partner of Art Basel, reaffirming its long and substantial record of engagement in contemporary art. This new partnership is in recognition of Art Basel's expansion into Hong Kong, and is a continuation of UBS's proud history with Art Basel, having served as the main sponsor of the original show in Switzerland in 1994, followed by the inaugural Art Basel show in Miami Beach in 2002. UBS is home to one of the world’s most distinguished corporate art collections. It also serves as an active partner in global contemporary art projects and is a source of information and insight for investors and collectors through its UBS Arts Forum.

UBS’s role this year in Miami Beach enlivens past traditions with new elements. For the past six years during Art Basel in Miami Beach, UBS has featured works of art from its extensive art collection in the UBS Lounge. This year, UBS will showcase a larger number of works including 11 diverse pieces by Latin American artists from the UBS Art Collection. Curated by Jacqueline Lewis, Director and Regional Curator of the Americas for the UBS Art Collection, this special presentation complements the launch of the Latin American phase of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative. Artists include Argentinean-born artist Santiago Cucullu, Venezuelan artist Arturo Herrera, the Cuban collective Los Carpinteros, Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar, Costa Rican artist Federico Herrero, Colombian artist Oscar Munoz, Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco, and Brazilian artists Rivane Neuenschwander and Rocha Pitta. Following the presentation in the UBS lounge at Art Basel, a number of works will be on view in local UBS branches in Miami.
In addition to its partnership with the show, UBS has a longstanding tradition of participating in arts education opportunities in Miami, as a way of making the arts more accessible to our communities. UBS now has an ongoing partnership with Arts for Learning/Miami to support “ArtWorks,” a program designed to help talented young students from underserved neighborhoods in Miami to develop their artistic potential and gain valuable career skills in the arts. The program supports 29 high school students for six weeks during the summer, and 10 students throughout the year as they participate in a paid arts internship and high school career readiness program. This year, students taking part in “Artworks” will participate in an arts-related workshop hosted by UBS and led by artist Santiago Cucullu.
Coinciding with this year’s show in Miami Beach, UBS will launch a distinctive new advertising campaign that builds upon UBS’s legacy of involvement with contemporary art, and supports its ongoing commitment to Art Basel. The campaign declares, “Everywhere is Art,” and communicates the role UBS plays as a trusted advisor in art and finance for its clients and the general public.
Art Basel in Miami Beach, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center from December 5 through December 8, 2013, is a premier art world destination and will feature more than 250 leading international galleries, drawn from 31 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
