Citi’s Rankings Soar in Extel Survey

Citi underlined its position as a leading brokerage house and research provider as the bank was named among the highest ranked firms in the 2013 Extel Pan-European Survey released on June 10.

Citi was ranked No. 1 provider in Economics & Strategy Research (up from 3rd place in 2012) and No. 1 in the Equity Sales category (up from 3rd). The bank ranked No. 4 in the overall survey’s results (up from 5th), second in the Emerging European Research category, third in the Best Brokerage Firm for Operations category and 5th in Equity Trading (up from 9th).

Citi also captured 20 top-three and 28 top-five positions for country & sector research, a further demonstration of the bank’s momentum in the space. Citi was recognized as the leading research provider for General Retail, Pharmaceuticals, Quant, UK small & mid cap companies, Valuation & Accounting as well as Financials, Telecoms and Chemicals in Emerging EMEA.

The Thomson Reuters Extel Survey is regarded as a leading benchmark for excellence in investment banking and asset management. In 2013, it gathered 670,000 votes from more than 15,000 buy side, brokerage and corporate professionals.

Commenting on the survey’s results, Andrew Thompson, Citi’s Head of Equities in Europe, Middle- East and Africa (EMEA), said: “These results are a great recognition of the strength of Citi’s global equity sales and trading force located in more than 29 cities across five continents. This extensive network, coupled with the investment themes developed by our top-ranked analysts, allow us to provide leading investment services and a powerful distribution platform to support and advise our clients to the highest standard in this volatile environment”.

Terence Sinclair, Citi’s Head of Equity Research in EMEA added: “Citi’s top rankings across many of the Extel Survey’s categories are a reflection of the bank’s continued focus on its Research offering across a broad range of sectors and regions. Client satisfaction is the most important endorsement for us and we are delighted that the quality of our business has been recognized in so many categories this year.”
