The substance of our work varies greatly between two scenarios:
· Custom Application Development. Clients hire us when off-the-shelf products in a given space are unavailable, inadequate or too expensive. We develop new systems from scratch, re-engineer legacy platforms, and provide independent QA and code review, on a fixed-price or flexible Time-and-Material basis. Three critical success factors are:
o Time-to-Market.;
o Total Cost of Ownership and Business Value Realization (BVR), compared with both off-the-shelf products and alternative development options;
o User Adoption – a system is only successful if its users are happy, no matter how well designed and executed the system is;
When discussing a Custom Development project with a client, our first consideration is Team Ramp-up and Training. Our experience shows that our proprietary training and domain knowledge sharing system allows us to save up to six weeks of start-up time – time that is often critical for clients and provides for better quality early in the process.
· Straight Through Processing (STP) Integration. We are often hired to connect disparate systems that were not built to work together. Examples include:
o Integration between portfolio/position management system and an accounting engine for complex products;
o Eliminating double-entry for securities T&C and corporate actions by establishing a central Reference Data repository;
When we prepare to launch Integration projects, our training goes beyond basic data formats and focuses on the systems and competitive landscape research. We measure our success by looking at:
o Time to deployment;
o Flexibility and maintainability – systems and formats change more often than we all would like them to, and our systems must be ready;
o Adoption impact – does this integration really save time and money?
