Capital One Financial Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Lenander as UK CEO
Capital One Financial Corporation (COF) today announced that Amy Lenander has been appointed UK CEO.
Ms Lenander will be responsible for the overall strategic direction and general management of the UK credit card portfolio, replacing Chris Newkirk who has recently been appointed President of International and Small Business Card at Capital One.
Since joining Capital One as a graduate business analyst in 2003, Ms Lenander has held successively larger leadership roles, most recently as Chief Marketing Officer, UK. She graduated magna cum lade from Harvard University and holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Mr Newkirk congratulated Ms Lenander on her appointment, and praised her following a successful period on the executive leadership team and UK board of directors.
“Since 2014 Amy has driven a large and complex portfolio as CMO, from customer acquisition to product development and she has shown exceptional leadership and commercial acumen. We are delighted to be able to appoint a candidate of Amy’s calibre and potential from within our own organisation,” Mr Newkirk said.
“Amy is an exceptional executive and strategic thinker. She will drive Capital One forward in the UK by pushing ahead with our digital transformation programme and maintaining a rigorous approach to risk management.”
Ms Lenander said Capital One will continue finding new ways to use technology to attract customers and develop products and tools to help them succeed with credit.
“This is such an exciting time for the firm. We are growing in our market and transforming ourselves to operate with the speed and innovation of a technology company. I’m looking forward to continuing to create innovative strategies and products, and I’m focused on helping people successfully navigate the world of credit."
Capital One UK, which employs 1,000 at its Nottingham headquarters, will soon be opening a new London office in the White Collar Factory, overlooking Silicon Roundabout, to accommodate over 200 London-based employees working in technology and product design.
Ms Lenander’s appointment to the role is effective immediately.
Capital One launched its UK operations in 1996, offering credit card products. The UK headquarters and operations centre for Capital One (Europe) plc is based in Nottingham.
Innovation has been the key to Capital One’s success, operating at the intersection between technology and financial services, the company revolutionised the credit card industry during the 1990s by rejecting uniform pricing in favour of statistical models based on a greater depth of data and analytics. More recent technological innovations protect applicants for the company’s products (QuickCheck), help customers avoid fees and lead the way in saving customers’ time and money.
The company has been named one of the top five large workplaces in the country by the Great Place to Work® Institute. It won first place in the Great Place to Work® 'Best Workplaces' Awards for three years running from 2013 to 2015. It has also been named one of the best places to work in Europe.
Capital One’s Classic and Balance Plus credit cards have been awarded a four star Fairbanking Mark from the Fairbanking Foundation in 2015. The Fairbanking Foundation is a not-for-profit, research-based charity established in 2008 to encourage and assist providers of banking products to improve the financial well-being of their customers.
In 2015 Capital One was the first credit card provider in the UK to offer a pre-qualification tool which gives 100 per cent certainty whether an applicant will be accepted. Dubbed QuickCheck, the tool gathers and processes an applicant’s information and returns a verdict within minutes, without conducting a full credit check which would leave a mark on an applicant’s credit report.
On May 5, 2016, Capital One UK announced it had signed an 11-year lease at the White Collar Factory, adjacent to Silicon Roundabout, London, where it would relocate its 50 existing London staff as well as 200 new tech hires.
The organisation also won the Treating Customers Fairly award at the Card and Payments Awards 2015.
