Improves Navigation and Manipulation of Thomson Datastream’s Encyclopedic Databases

London: 31 January 2005 -- Thomson Financial, an operating unit of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and leading provider of information and technology solutions to the worldwide financial community, today announced the launch of Interactive Charting for Economics, which will be included in the standard package for Thomson Datastream. The new web-based interface offers intuitive navigation and manipulation of Thomson Datastream, the world’s largest historical financial numerical database.

Thomas Aubrey, Head of Datastream, Research and Economics, Thomson Financial commented: "We are excited about the new Charting for Economics interface which taps into our clients’ workflow to help them provide value-added analysis much more quickly. Together with Thomson Datastream’s ongoing integration into the Thomson ONE open application framework, we are able to offer clients solutions that help them improve efficiency and productivity."

Users of Thomson Datastream will see immediate benefits from the intuitive new interface, which includes easy to use pages designed around users’ workflow. This alleviates the requirement for training and offers one click context passing to enable efficiency saving through easy navigation between pages, functions, currency conversions and any datatypes applied by users. It is now much easier for users to manipulate the content contained within Thomson Datastream to explore relationships between time series, generate ideas and test scenarios.

Key features include:

• Flexible charting – fly-out menus include all the analytical tools required to access to the full power of Datastream functions and expressions

• Pre-formatted reports – the major market moving indicators from each economy are presented in pre-formatted reports drawn from Thomson Datastream’s 400,000 macro–economic series

• Integration with Microsoft Office - data can be exported to Excel as embedded requests and charts can be saved as a project for further editing/publishing

Last year, Thomson Financial announced that Thomson Datastream is being integrated into The Thomson ONE open application framework and that it had invested significantly in Thomson Datastream’s infrastructure. This has increased capacity by 35% and improved client query response times. It also provided connectivity to facilitate remote Internet access for Thomson Datastream users.

Thomson Datastream is the world’s largest and most respected historical financial numerical database covering an unparalleled breadth of financial instruments, equity and fixed income securities, and indicators for over 175 countries and 60 markets worldwide. Datastream Advance 4.0 seamlessly integrates Datastream’s unrivalled financial databases in a single interface on the clients' desktop. It offers sophisticated yet flexible analysis and charting facilities, and a powerful set of add-ins that enable the data and charts to be dynamically retrieved and manipulated within the user’s Microsoft Office applications. Datastream Advance 4.0 deploys a centrally based and browser delivered series navigation component that facilitates identification of the correct time series from over 25 million available on the Datastream system.
