shinobicontrols launches iOS 9 eBook for Apple developers

14 January 2016

App developers interested in iOS and Swift have been given a helping hand this week in the form of a free iOS 9 eBook, from the leading creator of fast, responsive charting and user interface tools.

Last September, shinobicontrols launched a comprehensive series of blog posts - iOS 9 Day by Day - following the launch of Apple’s latest operating system. With the aim of making each post as straightforward and practical to use as possible, each of the discussed topics includes a high-level summary of the new possibilities of Apple’s latest release, as well as working sample code, in bite-sized chunks, hosted on shinobicontrols’ GitHub account.

The blog series has now been produced as an eBook. As well as covering new APIs and giving developers the chance to see the features in action, the eBook also covers the problems that have been encountered and lessons learnt. Topics include:

●     Search APIs

●     User Interface testing

●     Storyboard references

●     UIStackView

●     Xcode code coverage

●     Multitasking

●     Contacts framework

●     Apple Pay

●     UIKit Dynamics

●     MapKit Transit

●     GameplayKit –  pathfinding

●     GameplayKit – behaviors and goals

●     CloudKit web services.

This will be the third eBook for iOS developers that shinobicontrols has produced after its initial Day by Day blog series, on Apple’s iOS 7, proved popular enough to warrant the production of its first such publication in 2013. The iOS 9 Day-by-Day series alone now has an engaged readership of more than 40,000 software developers.

shinobicontrols’ Chief Operating Officer Stuart Grey said: “The app development environment is highly collaborative and we’re pleased to be able to contribute straightforward and practical content to such an engaged community. We’re glad these eBooks have proved to be genuinely helpful over the last couple of years.

“Looking ahead, we hope to continue the series, both on our blog and in eBook form, for the forthcoming release of Apple iOS 10 and beyond.”
