Ganapathy Karthikeyan of Capital One Honored at 18th Annual CRA & Fair Lending Colloquium
Wolters Kluwer Financial Services has named Ganapathy “Karthik” Karthikeyan, senior manager, CRA Compliance, at Capitol One’s Richmond, Va. Office, as the honoree of its inaugural Alfredo deHaas Excellence in Analytics Award. The award, which recognizes a banking professional who “excels in leveraging data to demonstrate his or her institution's commitment to regulatory compliance,” was presented at the company’s 18th annual CRA & Fair Lending Colloquium, held this week at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina.
Named after longtime Community Reinvestment Act analyst Alfredo deHaas of MUFG Union Bank, N.A. in San Francisco, the award is meant “to trumpet the ‘unsung heroes’ who embody Alfredo's passion and spirit for championing the creative and thoughtful use of data.” DeHaas recently passed away after a long fight with cancer. Several members of deHaas’ family attended the awards ceremony.
Karthik was selected by a committee of veteran compliance professionals from the banking industry for his professionalism and commitment to excellence in data analytics. The committee highlighted his passion for looking at data in thoughtful, compelling and at times surprising ways to help his organization better use and manage its business data.
“Karthik is continually looking ahead, working tirelessly to leverage input from his internal customers to help make their work more efficient, more effective and, most importantly, impactful for the communities we serve,” said Harvey Gantz, Jr., senior director, CRA Compliance, Capitol One. “The diligence and commitment he brings to Capital One’s CRA analytics are a true reflection of our company’s values. He is passionate in his approach, tapping data in innovative ways to help ensure that he and his team are constantly evolving and adapting to the emerging world of digital banking.”
“We are thrilled that Wolters Kluwer Financial Services has created an award to honor the professionalism and memory of Alfredo,” said Jan E. Woolsey, managing director, CRA Strategy and Operations for MUFG Union Bank. “Alfredo consistently demonstrated a passion for the work we do at the bank to fulfill our regulatory compliance obligations and better serve our customers.”
“Regulatory compliance is increasingly data-intensive, and with the onslaught of new regulatory requirements, institutions must rely on extracting truths from data. Creative analytic team members with excellent tools and a strong data governance program are increasingly the standard that all financial service firms must meet,” said Todd Cooper, vice president and general manager, Enterprise Risk Compliance, for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services. “My colleagues and I had tremendous respect for Alfredo, and it is a great pleasure to recognize Karthik’s thoughtful dedication to data analytics through this award.”
Sponsors of the 2014 Colloquium include the American Bankers Association, Independent Community Bankers of America, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
