On May 20th, InvestTech Senior EDM Consultant, Patrick Egan presented on Meta Data in Data Governance at InvestTech’s EDM Best Practices Midwest Working Group in Chicago. The focus of the meeting was sharing best practices in advancing an EDM program. Data management professionals from ten Midwest money management firms learned about the importance of Meta Data management as a core component for a successful Data Governance and Data Quality program. Patrick also shared proven approaches and potential risks when embarking on a Meta Data initiative.
At the LOMA Investment Operations Committee meeting in Orlando, Florida on May 22nd InvestTech also presented on both Data Management and Investment Book of Record (IBOR). Senior Manager, Chris Spurrell, presented on IBOR, while comparing and contrasting to a firms Accounting Book of Record (ABOR), Chris outlined the benefits of IBOR specifically to insurance firms; and how to structure accountabilities to progress the IBOR concept. The second presentation of the afternoon was on standing up Data Governance. In his presentation, senior InvestTech consultant Patrick Egan covered the importance of data governance, while discussing different approaches to organizational structure and operational best practices. Patrick also shared InvestTech insights on key capabilities, accountabilities and expectations when delivering a successful data governance initiative.
Later this month, on June 19th, InvestTech will be presenting at the TSAM Buy-Side Data Management conference in New York. Jeremy Hurwitz, InvestTech’s Founder and President, will be both present and moderate a panel on the realities of IBOR and its role in Data Management strategies. The panel will examine the reasons for the rise in importance of an IBOR over an ABOR or Trading Book of Record (TBOR); associated costs, benefits and challenges of delivering on IBOR. Jeremy’s presentation will include the ways an optimized business data management service platform can deliver on IBOR. In addition to IBOR, other key topics to be addressed will include data governance policy, regulation, challenges of warehousing data, and the market for vendors and service providers.
