FIX Trading Community hosts Nordic Trading Briefing 2014

Hong Kong, London and New York - 25 April 2014

Following a successful EMEA Trading Conference in March, the FIX Trading Community will host its annual Nordic Briefing on 15th May in Stockholm. Last year, the event attracted 230 senior local market participants to discuss and listen to presentations regarding trading in the region. This year, the event is already proving to be very popular and we are anticipating that sponsorship will be sold out very soon.

The Nordics are an incredibly important region for EMEA and is home to a large buyside community with assets close to EUR 1 trillion in state sovereign, insurance and pension funds in the area. Additionally, NASDAQ OMX is now the 2nd largest exchange in the world and the Nordic region, especially Stockholm, has been a hub for financial technology innovation for a number of years now.

The agenda for this year’s Briefing will initially take a high level view of the region and then drill down to recent developments, opportunities, issues and the challenges that are going to be facing the buyside, sellside and vendors in the Nordics in the near future. Whilst there are similar issues facing global markets, wherever they may be, the reason that the Nordics Briefing is so well attended is the focus on specific topics that are high on people’s agenda in the region. As an example, there will be a discussion regarding CSAs on the day on how the use of CSAs is growing throughout the world but the unbundling of execution and research isn’t prevalent across the Nordics – currently CSAs are only allowed in Sweden and Finland. Will that landscape change? There will also be discussions that address the challenges the Nordic buyside community are facing relative to their peers in Europe and the key developments for the Fixed Income Market in the region.

The speakers at the event will represent various business lines and the support that we have from senior figures at a number of different organisations indicates that the subject matters will be discussed by people with a depth of knowledge, not only of the industry but also of the region.

“The Nordics have always been at the forefront of electronic trading technology and this year the event's theme will focus on the challenges ahead for the region as well on how the Nordics will continue to grow and be a focus for Europe,” Fredrik Hjorth, Co-Chair FIX Trading Community Nordic Working Group, Managing Director, Tradeflow AB.
