Zapp signs up WorldPay to process mobile payments

The Zapp UK mobile m-commerce, loyalty, payment, online and in-store offering that VocaLink unveiled this summer for a planned 2014 start date, has signed up WorldPay as a payment processing partner opening up thousands of merchant terminals in shops across the UK and potentially millions of customers.

The strategic partnership between Zapp and WorldPay commits both organisations to working together to optimise the Zapp m-payment and commerce solution and to make Zapp available to merchants in 2014.

Zapp can be integrated into merchant’s online and mobile checkouts and used at the Point-of-Sale (PoS) for near field communication (NFC) contactless payments, speeding up queues, or via quick response (QR) codes, as well as online. For consumers, Zapp can be embedded in current mobile banking applications so they can quickly and easily access mobile payments from a trusted source without new logins or passwords. Consumers can check their balance before paying for goods and services, thereby staying in control of their finances.

WorldPay is one of the largest payment services providers in Europe and is keen to diversify its base, as evidenced by its launch earlier this year of its Zinc mobile MPoS solution. By signing up to promote Zapp to its merchants it is adding another end point to supply volume to its payment processing platform.
