Barclays stores safety deposit box in the cloud

Barclays has launched a cloud-based storage system, which allows customers to store important documents such as bills, statements and passport information online.

The Cloud IT document management service enables people to upload and organise files to be stored in their online banking account.

It has already been made available to existing online Barclays personal account and business customers through a new module on the company website. It now includes an archive of banking correspondence and statements.

In order to keep the service secure, the institution will scan all documents and will cancel any uploads that contain malware or viruses.

Customers can create separate boxes for their personal files and set up renewal, payment and other alerts.

People can store an unlimited amount of data online and a selection of picture and document file are supported, up to five MB in size, although users will be unable to upload music or video files.
