MasterCard has entered a global partnership with Parkeon, a parking services provider.
The move will enable shoppers to benefit from local merchant offers and loyalty services through the global network of smart parking terminals.
According to the firm, the couponing platform, which was developed by MasterCard, will allow for offers to be delivered from locally relevant retailers directly to customers as they are paying for their parking spaces.
The programme will run a pilot scheme in Rockville Center, New York on October 7th when MasterCard's couponing platform will be integrated into existing Parkeon terminals for the first time.
A full scale deployment of the new merchant offers solution is expected to start at the beginning of 2014 across Europe and the US, according to the company.
This process will transform the retail experience for shoppers and is designed to reward individuals "at the right moment and in the right place".
