Gérard Rameix Joins ESMA’s Management Board

15 March 2013

The board of supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has elected Gérard Rameix as a member of its management board, which is responsible for ensuring that the Authority carries out its mission and performs the tasks assigned to it under its founding regulation.

ESMA is slowly beginning to assume its critical role at the centre of European regulation after recently producing its first risk report on the EU securities markets.

Rameix, who is chairman of France’s stock market regulator the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), replaces Kurt Pribil from Austria’s Finanzmarktaufsicht (FMA), who has recently left the FMA, on the management board of EMA. The term will last until October 2014.

Following the election ESMA’s management board, which is chaired by Steven Maijoor, director of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), now consists of the following people:

• Karl-Burkhard Caspari, Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin), Germany.
• Jean Guill, Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF), Luxembourg.
• Raul Malmstein, Finantsinspektsioon, Estonia.
• Gérard Rameix, Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), France.
• Julie Galbo, Finanstilsynet, Denmark.
• Martin Wheatley, Financial Services Authority (FSA), UK.
