LME posts new monthly trading record for June

Trading at the London Metal Exchange (LME) reached record levels in June, up 28% on June 2012, taking volumes in the first half of the year to a new high.

June saw volumes rise for a third consecutive month with 16,319,351 lots traded. Trading in the first half rose 9% to 86,782,950 lots compared with 79,564,146 lots in the corresponding period of 2012.

Nickel and cobalt volumes experienced the largest growth year to date, with first half volumes up 23% and 21% respectively. Aluminum was up 14%, tin increased 19%, zinc saw an increase of 7% and copper volumes were up 6% compared with H1 2012.

In the first half of 2013, the LME’s average daily volume was 699,863 lots, up 10% from the corresponding period in 2012

The LME is utilizing TRADExpress technology for a number of system implementations and Cinnober is the supplier behind the LMEselect electronic trading platform, for example. Cinnober is also the LME’s technology partner on the prestigious project to build an entirely new proprietary clearing house, LME Clear.
