Atos to let its payments business go it alone

In a surprise move designed to give its transactional services unit the freedom to target growth under the single euro payments area (SEPA) and changing European payments landscape, Atos has announced plans to set its transaction unit up as an independent business by summer 2013.

The new transactional unit at Atos would be make more than EUR1.1bn in revenue and EUR165m in profit going by last year’s figures, as a standalone business, with the freedom to pursue new mobile and outsourcing / processing opportunities.

According to the French-headquartered business it would be a European leader in payments and the move would, “provide the strategic and financial flexibility [necessary] to expand its product offerings across the entire transaction value chain including alliances and partnerships".
