CaixaBank will now be able to offer mPOS functionality as it has partnered with Global Payments to create a new app along with a chip and PIN system to accept card transactions.
The new reader is to be sold through the Comercia Global Payments website and will be available in all 200 CaixaBank branches in Barcelona.
An Android application has been made available for download and will be free of charge, while an iOS option is currently in development.
Once a payment is received, the app shows the total amount and the details of the products and services that were sold.
Interestingly, the system will allow small business owners to keep the references they usually house in their commercial catalogues on their mobile devices.
The institution claims its new mPOS system is the first to be developed by a bank to launch in Spain.
Meanwhile, Banco Sabadell has partnered with Ingenico and will launch its own offering in the near future.
