TeamMate Offers New Federal Government Practice for Auditors

Minneapolis, MN - 3 May 2012

Wolters Kluwer’s TeamMate® has created a Federal Government Practice to help address the specific and unique challenges facing U.S. government auditors.

Unlike corporations that must follow Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, government financial managers must follow OMB Circular No. A-123, which defines management’s responsibility for internal control in federal agencies. Government auditors follow standards prescribed in the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Yellow Book. Other challenges include auditing against the federal budget and providing semi-annual reports to Congress.

The TeamMate Federal Government Practice is led by Pamela McCoy, who has more than 20 years of audit, audit management and audit management systems experience. McCoy, who was formerly an audit manager with the Air Force Audit Agency, has personally helped more than 80 federal agencies address audit challenges and implement the TeamMate audit management system.

“We saw a need in the market to provide tailored support for government auditing, which is quite different than auditing in a corporate environment,” said Mike Gowell, general manager and vice president of TeamMate. “Not only can we help government auditors better assess risk through technology, but our expert resources can provide support and consulting to help alleviate the specific challenges facing auditors at the federal level.”

Under the new program, TeamMate is relocating a dedicated trainer to Washington, D.C. to help federal agencies easily connect with an in-person resource, and assigning support staff to exclusively handle technical questions for federal government auditors.

Additionally, TeamMate will highlight courses geared toward government entities at the TeamMate User Forum, the world’s largest audit technology conference.

TeamMate will also increase its presence at government-specific conferences in 2012, including those presented by the Government Finance Officers Association, the National Society of Compliance Professionals, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and the Association of Local Government Auditors.
