Contigo Energy, the Birmingham-based supplier of ETRM/CTRM software to the energy industry has set a new record, with its latest product clearing electricity industry regulator National Grid’s (NGT) vigorous testing programme in just three days.
An extension to Contigo’s enVoy product, the EDL module provides an interface for NGT EDL which allows generators in the UK Power market to receive instructions from and submit dynamic parameter changes back to NGT in real time, regulating power flow.
Designed to simplify the process of sending and receiving energy industry data flows, enVoy connects a customer’s energy trading function directly to their external data agents.
Adrian Bullock, Director, Contigo, said: “We knew that the testing process would be demanding, however enVoy EDL has been designed from the ground up to be as flexible and adaptable as possible so we were confident that it would pass, but had no idea that it would do so in such a short time.
“When we were initially designing our products, we had a very strong vision that each one should be modular and able to be used either as a stand-alone product, or as part of the wider enTrader suite, and enVoy EDL is a perfect example of this in action.
“enVoy EDL supports the published EDL interface protocols and allows sophisticated, dynamic management of each generation unit managed by the energy supplier. The module can be easily integrated with the enVoy EDT module, or any other EDT system.”
With up to 600 individual tests, NGT’s scenario testing process ensures that products designed to support the stability of the national power network are capable of operating effectively under a huge range of situations.
Simon Piercy, Contigo Managing Director, said: “We were told by National Grid that most products of this type which undergo the testing take between five to six days to pass and that they were impressed by how quickly envoy EDL had passed the testing. We achieved full compliance in less than three days of testing, due primarily to the in-built flexibility and rapid configuration capabilities of enVoy EDL which enabled it to be changed to meet particular challenges as they arose, streamlining the testing time considerably.”
Because it has been built using a sophisticated and modern platform, enVoy EDL is effectively future-proofed against the changes that National Grid will be making to its processes in 2013.
