Equens Hits 11 Million Transactions per Day on WAY4

14 June 2012

Equens SE, the pan-European payment processor, is using the WAY4 card and merchant management platform to process 11.8 million POS and ATM clearing transactions per day, a speed milestone as compared with the 2 million transactions per day the company used to achieve in 2010. The next peak expected is 25 million transactions per day.

Transaction volumes have increased thanks to Equens acquiring new big merchants, and now serving around half a million merchants across Europe. Another driver was SEPA, as the Netherlands has been migrating from a local debit scheme PIN to the international Maestro product. Equens’s migration from legacy software to WAY4 in 2008 was farseeing – It helped the processor to improve its infrastructure and accelerate the further business growth. Now Equens has no limits to multiply its transaction volumes several times a year. The ATM and POS clearing transactions being processed on the WAY4 platform include accounting transactions, fee calculations, transaction validations and currency conversions.

Wim Pardon, Managing Director of OpenWay EMEA, comments: “OpenWay’s place at the forefront of payment technologies is ensured by our partnership with the leading financial institutions, payments processors and telecommunication companies on different continents. We are very grateful to Equens who proved WAY4 suitable for the most demanding business and who allows our software to set up new records every year.”
