Cleartrade Exchange’s Richard Baker to discuss growing regulatory burdens and ask the question: is regulation killing derivatives?
Richard Baker, CEO, Cleartrade Exchange (CLTX) will address Capital Link’s 4th Annual Global Derivatives Forum in New York City next week. Baker’s topic at this major industry event will be “Removing Uncertainty”; he will go on to discuss how best to tackle the effects of an increasingly intricate web of global regulations on derivatives trading. Baker will be joined in the discussion by Isabella Kurek-Smith, Director and Head of Energy and Freight Markets at LCH.Clearnet and Michael Sackheim, a Partner with Sidley Austin LLP, where he focuses on futures and derivatives regulatory, transactional and enforcement matters.
“We are in daily contact with global institutions, brokers, clearers and fellow exchanges and the single biggest headache for many of these organisations is the difficulties and challenges of increasing regulation and the deadlines associated with it,” Richard Baker said. “At the forum next week we will tackle questions such as: ‘What is a SEF?’; ‘What are DCMs and FCMs?’; ‘Who is a swap participant and who’s a swap dealer?’. There will also be discussion around the new demands on trade reporting,” he added.
The Capital Link Global Derivatives Forum is expected to be well attended, with over 300 delegates registered. As well as the regulatory landscape, expert panels will cover a number of freight and commodity markets, discussing the opportunities and challenges which face organisations operating in these sectors. The event will be hosted at the Metropolitan Club in New York City on Monday 17th December. Registration is free for delegates.
CLTX, as a regulated futures exchange, gives members the ability to execute both futures and OTC Cleared derivatives contracts. “Assisting our members in navigating regulatory change and providing them with the right venue and tools to manage their risk are key elements of the value CLTX brings to the market,” added Bob Antell, Cleartrade Exchange’s Business Development Director.
