Markel modernises with new Sequel system

14 October 2011

• Markel to replace 8 core policy administration systems with just one: Sequel’s Eclipse software.

• Markel’s business transformation programme runs on Sequel’s software.

Sequel, the insurance and reinsurance software specialists, have just successfully completed, on time and on budget, the software to support Markel International Limited’s business transformation programme. Sequel’s Eclipse software will replace eight core policy administration systems and a further 12 sub-systems, which will be retired or replaced. The full system will go live in early 2012.

William Stovin, Chief Operating Officer at Markel, comments: "Sequel have delivered what they promised. They’re helping us achieve our major business transformation milestones with their software and supporting expertise. Sequel understand the market and our business - and their ability to deliver to timescale has been clearly demonstrated."

Michael Graham, Sequel’s Sales and Marketing Director, says: "We have been working closely with Markel’s team to make sure we delivered on time and on budget. Eclipse is the central component on which Markel’s global business change programme is being built. This all important modernising phase paves the way for the rest of our planned large-scale delivery programme. The programme will give Markel just one core system to run its global business on.

"Markel wanted a new flexible and powerful system that would improve data management, include straight through processing and give one single point of access for all the company’s core information. The new system we’ve started to roll out will do just that. It will allow Markel to respond more quickly, and with more confidence, to internal and external stakeholders as well as the market place," Graham concludes.
