Despite the impact of ongoing challenges within the global economy, this yearâs top 100 financial technology firmsâ revenues grew to a collective $58.1 billion, an almost 10 percent increase from 2009 to 2010. Some additional noteworthy highlights from this yearâs ranking include:
⢠Revenues from the ranked companies overall increased from the previous year, and the minimum revenue required to make the list hovered just above $39 million;
⢠Ten new entrants appear in this yearâs ranking (vs. only six last year): Wincor Nixdorf (#11), Core Logic (#16), Aegis Global Communications (#51), ISGN Corporation (#68), Clear2Pay (#81), Sorto Corp. (#91), BancVue (#95), Multifonds (#96), FNC, Inc. (#98), and Novantas, LLC (#100).
⢠Davis + Henderson represents the largest positive movement on the list, jumping 23 spots from 64 (2010) to 41 (2011);
⢠As predicted last year, FIS has passed 2010âs #1 ranked company, Fiserv, to claim the top spot in this yearâs ranking; and
⢠Companies from 16 different countries are represented. U.S.-based companies continue to dominate the list, with India leading the pack among other nations with 10 entrants on this yearâs ranking.
âIt is encouraging to see that so many vendors in the financial industry performed well in spite of the troubled economy in this country,â said Penny Crosman, editor of Bank Technology News. âThese companies are nimbly adapting their company and product strategies to meet changing demands.â
âThe financial services industry remains in a precarious place with the global economy at another tipping point and regulatory and compliance concerns at an all time high,â said Karen Massey, senior analyst, banking practice at IDC Financial Insights. âHowever, the FinTech 100 gives us the industry-leading providers of the most innovative, efficient, and effective technology solutions to financial institutions, and they are performing quite well in this very difficult era.â
The 2011 ranking of the top 100 software and service providers in the financial services industry is categorised and evaluated by calendar year-end revenues (CY10) and the percentage of revenues from sales to financial services industry clients. The ranking includes vendors that derive more than one-third of eligible revenue from the financial services industry. Revenue from network, telecommunications, electronic exchanges and data services providers is ineligible. All rankings are based on IDC Financial Insightsâ revenue estimates including information provided by more than 400 individual public and private companies.
The 2011 honourees will be formally recognised at an awards ceremony and breakfast briefing at the BAI Retail Delivery 2011 conference in Chicago. The featured keynote speaker at the ceremony will be Zahid Afzal, EVP and CIO of Huntington Bancshares.
