Thomson Reuters Names Shanker Ramamurthy as President of its Sales & Trading Business

Focus on accelerating growth sees additional high profile new hires including Bill Harts as Chief Strategy Officer, Sales & Trading.

Thomson Reuters today announced the appointment of Shanker Ramamurthy as President, Sales & Trading for Thomson Reuters Markets effective June 20, 2011. With 2010 revenues of $3.5 billion and a workforce comprising 2,700 employees globally, Sales & Trading is Thomson Reuters largest financial business, serving customers in the foreign exchange, fixed income, equities, commodities and energy markets.

Shanker joins Thomson Reuters from IBM, where he was most recently General Manager for its Global Banking and Financial Markets business. Shanker’s appointment marks a commitment at Thomson Reuters to accelerate the growth of its Sales & Trading business, support the ongoing development of Thomson Reuters Eikon, the company’s premier financial desktop and mobile platform, and increase its participation in electronic trading marketplaces. As part of this commitment, Bill Harts also joins Thomson Reuters from Bessemer Venture Partners as Chief Strategy Officer for Sales & Trading, reporting to Shanker.

Based in New York, Shanker will oversee the delivery of information, news, collaboration and transactions services that support financial professionals on and off the trading floor. In his most recent role at IBM, Shanker had global responsibility for accelerating revenue growth and profitability of IBM’s Banking and Financial Markets business across services, software and hardware. Prior to this he had global responsibility for IBM’s Banking and Financial Markets Global Business Services business. Prior to joining IBM, Shanker was a Lead Partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Financial Services Strategic Consulting Practice.

Bill Harts is well known in the financial services industry as a pioneer of electronic and algorithmic trading, with a career spanning tenures at several financial institutions including NASDAQ and Citigroup. He is a successful builder of institutional trading businesses and a recognized authority on financial market structure and applied trading technology.
