Optial, the Operational Risk and Compliance specialists, announced today a new Country Legal Register Tool has been launched to provide an information portal to deliver Health and Safety legal requirements for multi-national companies with offices and retail stores in many countries.
The system, powered by Optial, offers Country Legal Registers of Health and Safety legal requirements that are developed and maintained by convergence, and enable companies to easily access this information for the countries in which they operate.
The legal register information is presented in dual language format (English and the local language) and users can view the registers in both languages or select which language is their preference.
In this first release a total of 15 country legal registers are available and a further 8 countries are due to be added to the system in September this year.
The convergence Country Legal Registers are currently presented in 3 different modules each providing increasing value:
Module 1: Legal Register Basic, is the inventory of laws and regulations of the country that fall within the Health and Safety for office or store settings scope and these are presented in a list of formal citations. The register is organized by topic and is keyword searchable. Hyperlinks to the actual legislation are provided and the information can easily be downloaded to Excel for further analysis.
Module 2: Legal Register Plus, incorporates the features and functions of Module 1 plus and also provides a descriptive summary of the legislation including the objectives of the legislation, to whom it may apply and the potential enforcement consequences for non-compliance.
Module 3: Legal Register Custom, incorporates all of the features and functions of Modules 1 & 2 and also adds the ability to develop site-specific legal registers, which also meets OHSAS 18000 requirements. Through a series of screening questions the user can identify the exact set of requirements within the legislation that they need to adhere to. This sets the foundation for a site-specific audit or self assessment checklist, which is Module 4.
Further value to companies will be provided in the future through Modules 4 & 5 â Compliance Protocols or Checklists and Automated Workflows.
Use of the tool provides significant Health and Safety value through the information provided as well as the opportunity to use the information to improve Health and Safety compliance and performance.
The new tool has been launched to a consortium of 4 founding American multinational companies: one from the pharmaceutical sector, one from Medical devices â Fenwal, and two from the electronics sector, including Qualcomm.
convergence consulting, along with Optial, is offering the Country Legal Register tool through a consortium approach which means that a group of companies have chosen to associate to achieve common objectives.
Because there are multiple companies involved the members have more options and opportunities to expand the topical scope to areas such as environmental requirements for offices, warehousing and distribution, social responsibility, product stewardship and others. Members also have the opportunity to expand country coverage. Most of the current members have offices in over 60 countries and are interested in annual expansion of the country library.
Speaking from Optialâs London Headquarters, Chris OâBrien Optialâs managing director said: âWe are very excited about the launch of the new Country Legal Register tool which demonstrates the value and strength of providing a solution based on the quality of information that convergence consulting provides, and is renowned for, powered by the Optial system. Cindy Chiles, President and founder of convergence consulting commenting on the launch said: âThis tool was created because our clients expressed the need. convergence conceived the Legal Register tool and the development of the content. We then approached our friends at Optial with the challenge to provide the platform to drive this tool; and they delivered. We are truly pleased at the results and our clientâs have expressed the same.â
