Sibos 2011 - Is it that time of year again already?

22 August 2011

With less than four weeks to go, the planning stages for this year’s Sibos in Toronto are now well underway. Organised by the Society of Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT), Sibos is one of the most important events on the financial services industry calendar. This is the place to be whether you’re looking to network, make business deals or gain key insights into industry trends.

Now in its 33rd year, Sibos continues to attract growing numbers of attendees and exhibitors. Last year’s conference in Amsterdam proved to be the most popular in its history, with more than 9,000 visitors, 170 sessions and 175 speakers over the five days. With the 2011 exhibition space sold out months ago and thousands of participants expected to make the trip to Canada, this year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest Sibos yet.

So what is on the agenda in Toronto? Well, there is a huge variety of topics in the programme of talks and sessions over the four-day event, which mirrors the diverse make-up of the SWIFT audience. Sessions will focus on the impact of regulation such as Basel III and the Dodd-Frank Act and the challenges created by the adoption of new technologies such as mobile payments, e-invoicing and cloud computing - but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Other talks will drill down into areas including crisis management, Islamic finance and the ISO 20022 business model.
