Financial leaders believe adopting social media is the most effective way of boosting their profile, a new survey has revealed.

A study by Robert Half showed that one in four accounting managers believe utilising this new technology is the best technique in which to increase their industry presence.

Phil Sheridan, managing director of Robert Half UK, said: "Many finance leaders clearly value social media as a way of increasing their visibility while networking with important professional contacts.”

“Executives in publicly-listed firms, in particular, are taking advantage of social media to showcase their skills and experience while also profiling their company as an attractive place to invest, work and conduct business."

However, further figures from the research showed that more than 41 per cent of respondents did not feel they needed to boost their industry profiles.

The firm offered a number of recommendations to industry professionals to broaden and develop their online presence.

Recommendations included receiving endorsements from colleagues and business partners as well as being selective on which organisations and individuals are invited to an online network.

The research was based on the results of interviews with more than 200 chief financial officers.
