The event focused on performance measurement, operational efficiency and the importance of quality core data in investment management systems - all widely discussed topics in China at present. As fund managers seek to expand into the global market, they find that their legacy and local systems are unable to cope with the demands of the global investment market.
By bringing domestic experts together with industry leaders, the series of seminars provides a platform to discuss best global practice and specific Chinese market requirements.
Mr. Trevor Persaud, Chairman of the GIPS Asia Executive Committee, and Head of Performance Measurement and Investment Risk at Prudential Asset Management said, âIt is a pleasure to have this opportunity to sit down with Mr. Hong Bin Xia and other Chinese performance practitioners and industry organizations such as the SAC. We have been able to talk frankly about Performance and the benefits of GIPS and how these standards could work within the Chinese market requirements. The specific needs in this market are obviously different to those we see globally, but many of the key issues facing fund managers and insurance companies coincide. This event has provided the committee with useful insights into local practices and I hope to return in the future to further develop some of the ideas we have discussed today.â
Ms. Nancy Yu, Head of Sales and Account Management for DST Global Solutions in China said âDST Global Solutions works closely with its clients and senior players in the market. We often identify issues that are of concern to our clients and as a consequence we felt there was a need to create a platform to address these concerns in an open forum. When DST Global Solutions launched this seminar series last year in Singapore, we always intended to create a similar platform in China, but on a larger scale. Our accumulated in-depth experience from working in the region ensured that the agenda was set to cover subjects that are relevant to the market, and that we could select world class speakers who could talk with authority on those topics.â
Guests at the China Investment and Operations Seminar included representatives from top fund managers and regulators. Speakers and guests from Chinaâs largest insurance companies also attended the event.
Tom Abraham, CEO for DST Global Solutions, gave the opening remarks at the event. He said: âI was extremely pleased by the turnout and interest showed by Chinese institutions. We will be conducting more of these information-oriented sessions as a result. I would like to thank all of our speakers who made such a valuable contribution, Albert Lee, Hong Bin Xia, Trevor Persaud, Stephen Ye and Paul Charie for agreeing to work with us on this and I would also like to thank all our guests and attendees who took the time to participate.â
