Robert E Hyer, Jr, an ex-employee of Citigroup, has been appointed by Houlihan Lokey to head up its new financial technology group.

The new manager, who has 23 years experience working as an investment banker, will be working with Bruce Urbanek, a financial technology expert previously employed by both Citigroup and Goldman Sachs.

Previously, Mr Hyer Jr worked on setting up Citigroup’s global electronic services group, which provided expert advice to the likes of NYCE, E*Trade and Fiserv.

Scott Adelson, senior managing director and global co-head of corporate finance at Houlihan Lokey, said: “We continue to aggressively add senior talent to the firm and this is another example of that happening in a key area.

“Rapid change in the financial technology industry is presenting new opportunities and Bob’s history of successful advisory work in this area will be instrumental to our growth going forward.”

The new postholder also worked as a managing director at Greenhill & Co and was responsible for managing the company’s $27 billion acquisition of First Data.

He also worked on a $5.2 billion sale to TH Lee and collaborated with Ceridian in a proxy defence.
