Travelex Global Business Payments are launching the Travelex Confidence Index (TCI) on Monday 7th June.
The Travelex Confidence Index measures the views and sentiments of the UKâs SME importers and exporters and tracks their confidence on international trade conditions, the UK economy, availability of credit for their business and their businessâ outlook over the next 6 to 12 months.
Developed in association with research company TNS-RI, the Travelex Confidence Index provides a focussed snapshot of the importers and exporters on the front line of the UKâs economic recovery. No other UK index investigates UK SME importers or exporters in this way and it affords a fresh and definitive perspective of the international trade and economic outlook now and over the next 12 months.
The TCI gauges how importers and exporters are responding to the current international trade and economic conditions, and more pertinently, whether economic recovery is sustainable. With policymakers steering the UK towards an export-led recovery, it has become more important than ever to regularly track the sentiment of the businesses that are driving our economic recovery forward.
David Sear, Global Managing Director at Travelex Global Business Payments comments, âUntil now there has been little comprehensive research that links official government statistics on international trade to the views and opinions of SME importers and exporters on the front line.
âThe interest in UK imports and exports is at an all-time high. Whilst the economy is expanding, the UK still has some major headwinds to face and it is crucial we track importer and exporters reaction to those. Swingeing public spending cuts, higher taxes, and the ongoing turbulence in the Eurozone, a key UK trading partner, could overturn recovery.
âThe TCI can help provide us with a crucial indication of future international trading conditions and economic progress. No other index can provide us with the same level of insight into UK exporter and importer sentiment.â
