Business intelligence reaches new level of sophistication

30 July 2009

As financial services organisations face more pressure than ever to make timely and sound decisions based on consolidated, real-time data, the launch today of business intelligence (BI) tool QlikView Version 9 promises to deliver the most unprecedented and valuable insight into business performance yet.

The flagship product of QlikTech, QlikView Version 9 sets a new standard for simplicity, usability and time to value in business intelligence, even when deployed at large-scale across entire financial services enterprises. The new version is compatible with any platform and can be accessed anywhere, anytime. For the most forward-thinking financial services businesses, QlikView 9 is the only BI offering that can be deployed on-premise, in the cloud, or on a laptop or mobile device.

“From mitigating risk exposures and managing capital and cashflow, to meeting new regulatory challenges, banking institutions and investment management companies in particular are facing numerous challenges,” says Andy Honess, managing director of QlikTech UK. “Whilst regular activities such as balance sheet consolidation and portfolio analysis have always been conducted, many businesses grapple with lead times of around 30 days and many man hours before reports are ready – by which time the information is historical. Qlikview 9 rapidly fast forwards the process, with clients accessing all the reporting data they need in just a few clicks. It’s real time data on which they can make much more confident, informed decisions.”

Version 9, which comes just two months after the company launched a mobile application for accessing QlikView on iPhones, was unveiled at a London launch road show today, attended by over 300 delegates. Delegates will hear how QlikView 9 is taking business intelligence to unchartered territories.

QlikView 9 is the first BI tool available as a mobile application that delivers a truly interactive mobile business intelligence experience by taking full advantage of leading devices’ native functionality. It supports all major mobile platforms including: the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry and Symbian-based smartphones.

In addition, QlikView 9 also incorporates the BI industry’s most comprehensive global search functionality. It enables users to search every single QlikView field simultaneously, from anywhere in the application with just one click. Traditional BI can only provide insight into limited numbers of fields, meaning users have to manually switch to different parts of their application and keep re-running searches, uncertain of how thorough they have been.

Andy Honess adds: “The BI industry is in the midst of a major transition. Time to value and usability are now the defining forces influencing adoption within the financial services industry. QlikView delivers on those and our continued rapid growth, including deployment of QlikView by some of the leading global institutions in this sector, is testament to that.

“In contrast, traditional BI providers are experiencing significant revenue declines, and surviving on maintenance and services fees. QlikView 9 is ideal for companies frustrated with failed attempts to implement BI from vendors such as IBM Cognos and Oracle. More and more understand the value of switching to QlikView because of its dramatically higher project success rate. They need to see the rapid return on investment that we can guarantee.”

QlikView has been recognised by leading IT analysts Gartner and Aberdeen Group as the best performing business intelligence tool in the market and for generating a high degree of praise and satisfaction from its users. It can be deployed in a matter of days and requires minimum user training, so payback is fast. Users are able to access and interrogate unprecedented volumes of data, gaining business answers rapidly and enabling informed, decision making.
