The planned savings will come on top of the Â£43 million efficiency savings delivered by the council over the last three years and the additional Â£5 million annual savings being won from the beginning of last year following the implementation by Capgemini of a new council-wide IT system in January 2008.
The transformation programme, which has already started, will include a new budget and planning framework, organisational changes which are expected to speed up decision making and make processes leaner and less bureaucratic, and a renewed focus on customer services, with improved choice and access including online, email, face-to-face and phone-based services.
Peter Bungard, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire County Council, said: âOur new IT system provides a springboard for change by improving communications across the council, by giving staff the consistent and timely information they need for decision-making, and by allowing us to explore in detail a number of money-saving scenarios.
