Barclays Stockbroker utilises electronic social media to support investors

9 December 2009

Barclays Stockbroker is launching a new service which utilises blogs, podcasts and microblogging website Twitter to help investors make more informed decisions.

Investment ViewPoint allows investors to adopt one of three “investor personalities” which most matches their own.

By picking from a 'cautious', 'moderate' or 'opportunistic' approach, investors will receive guidance and market research tailored to their chosen behaviour.

The Investment ViewPoint information will then be available as a podcast, through Twitter updates and a Smart Investor e-newsletter, which will guide readers to the most relevant articles for the character type they fit.

Barbara-Ann King, head of investments at Barclays Stockbrokers, said: "Our clients are predominantly online self-directed investors and the trend towards individuals taking control of their investment decisions means they need all the information and investment ideas that they can, to manage their portfolios.

“Through Investment ViewPoint our clients benefit from the highest quality investment information, delivered through a variety of tools that reflect today's lifestyles. “

Barclays Stockbrokers is to launch its series of blogs and podcasts during the first quarter of 2010.

Previous research from Barclays Stockbrokers showed that 95 per cent of its clients now trade online.
