Findings from a study by data sourcing company TPI showed that Forbes Global 2000 (G2000) companies in Europe spent $1.2 billion more on contractors than businesses in North America during the first three quarters of 2009.
The survey anticipates that the trend will continue for the rest of the year.
However, the results revealed the US to be the top country for the amount of money spent on outsourcing with Canada in third place.
The UK, Germany and France were also among the ten greatest investors in outsourcing.
Melany Williams, partner and managing director at TPI Momentum, said that the report was undertaken âto help service providers and others identify and pursue the most promising opportunitiesâ.
Further findings from the report showed India and China to have recorded a rapid rise in the amount of outsourcing from G2000 companies during the nine month period.
Previous figures from 2008 revealed that North America spent the highest amount on outsourcing with $29.6 billion when compared with the $28.7 billion recorded in Europe.
