Verizon Business Helps Ensure Italian Payment Provider Meets PCI-DSS Certification Standards

SITEBA (Sistemi Telematici Bancari S.p.A.), a leading Italian payment-service provider, has chosen Verizon Business to help ensure that the company's electronic payment services comply with international payment card industry data-security standards.

SITEBA offers a variety of electronic payment and management services for banks, financial institutions and gasoline stations throughout Italy. Verizon Business' professional security services team is providing a range of consultancy, audit, management and implementation services to help SITEBA's services achieve and maintain Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) certification.

Raffaele Sandroni, chief information officer at SITEBA, said: "Our customers need to be confident that our payment systems are completely secure as this reflects on the security of their own transactions. We have a long-standing relationship with the security experts at Verizon Business and appreciate their thorough and comprehensive approach to compliance assessment. These services have enabled us to optimize our security infrastructure, and we have seen a great improvement in our company's general security awareness."

The "2009 Verizon Business Data Breach Investigations Report" reaffirmed the importance of PCI compliance for any business that handles confidential financial data. The research was based on data analyzed from Verizon Business' actual caseload comprising 285 million compromised records from 90 confirmed breaches. The study found that 81 percent of affected organizations subject to PCI-DSS were noncompliant prior to being breached.
